Shotgun vs 380

What would you do if you were staring down the barrel of a shotgun, with a hooded man demanding your money or your life, but all you had in your pocket was five dollars and a .380 pistol?

Here is a very candid, post-shooting incident interview with a man who experienced exactly this situation and the law enforcement officials handling the case.

There are many real world lessons to be learned in this very rare and extremely educational video interview…

This is a video you are not likely to see very often.

Watch the video and then see my comments below as I point out important lessons to be learned from this incident.

First, let me say that I do not recommend, if you are ever involved in a shooting, that you agree to be interviewed in front of the press unless you have the kind of support this armed citizen has from the law enforcement officials involved and you have an attorney present.  Even then, a live interview with the press is still not a good idea.

Second, the law enforcement officials involved should be commended for their strong support of the right to defend oneself, and for their support of the actions of this armed citizen.

Third, this armed citizen is a real-life hero and could not be a better example of why ‘Shall Issue’ Concealed Carry Permits are needed in every state across this country.

Legislators and Sheriffs take notice!  When you deny hard-working, responsible, law-abiding citizens the ability to carry a concealed weapon, you shift the balance of power on the street into the hands of the criminals!

This story has a great ending, Sarasota, FL PD was good to him, and both BG will go to jail!
Please watch the video on the URL and read the whole article. Good points to think about.

First, I thank God that Mr. Firby was uninjured.

Second, how many of us would wish to face down a shotgun, at close range, with only a pistol, be that pistol a .380 .acp, as in this case, or even a .45 .acp?

Pistol vs shotgun at close range, the shotgun is going to win most times, even if you're Massad Ayoob.

Mr. Firby is a lucky man. It is probably fortunate that the perp was a teenager and likely a scared kid. This could have been very bad. I hope that Mr. Firby said his prayers as he went to bed.

I admire the law that allows the Florida police to make this an open and shut case. No need to ever go to the D.A. or to a Grand Jury and waste the tax payers money. Great law I hope that many other states follow suit.

Justice done, BG in the hospital and Mr. Firby safe at home.

Situational Awareness, mindset, and training.

Don't know how much this Firby had, but facing a punk totally untrained scared kid probably made this outcome what it is.

From Kid,

Second, how many of us would wish to face down a shotgun, at close range, with only a pistol, be that pistol a .380 .acp, as in this case, or even a .45 .acp?

I wouldn't wish to face any firearm, but I carry a Kel-Tec P3AT .380, usually with Cor-Bon, or Speer, and would react to the threat the same whether a .22 or 12g.

An opportunity presented itself and Firby reacted. Fortunately, to his advantage.

Don't know about the press conference being a "stellar" idea, but that was his choice.

That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

Thanks for putting that one up. I've forwarded this on to the rest of my family. This is a hard earned lesson for the armed citizen or should i say the armed robber beware of the armed citizen!

Look  22LR or 50ae a well placed shot by a well trained citizen will do the job every time. The 12ga in the wrong hands doesnt mean shit, I worked for Dunbar armour transport and i back down what could have been a robbery. My gun of choice was my 92fs, maybe i got lucky but i was prepared for the worst.
