Un Armed self defense
« on: July 09, 2009, 08:07:31 AM »
yea I know   ::)

however   a few of the things I do  I though I would go over with you guys and also get some more ideas of things  I can do

I will be getting MB's Book  and TBD dvd  ( i will be )

after hearing the podcast for a while now  and also Tom Gresham's show ( I don't listen to many other's )

I here of being "self aware"

so a few of the things I do

when in car parks @ night   I try to make sure I park the car under a light.   don't have dark tinted windows on them

if we are going out @ night I try to carry my Wolf-eyes torch,  some times a pocket knife ( not meant  to carry due to laws about having a ligament reason)

when walking about I don't just have my head down,  I look about,

I stay away from "hang outs"  and avoid the dodgy aria's

I am sure there is a lot more that  I could be doing   hence this thread.
Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them

Sounds like you got your thinking right.  Some of my additional habits:

Never walk around with your hands in your pockets,

When loading up into a vehicle in public, let all of your passengers get in and shut their doors before you begin getting into the car,

Lock your door immediately after opening it,

Most of staying safe in public is not presenting an easy target to criminals.  If they know your aware and you don't present them with an advantages situation, you may reduce your chance of being a victim.  If not, then by being aware and maintaining a strong stance in you environment by utilizing your brain will give you a greater opportunity to defeat an attacker.  Obviously my main area of concern when in public is parking lots, specaily at night, few witnesses, many escape routes for and attacker, and lots of ambush locations.  But staying out of 'dodgy' areas is a big one, and if you got to go to the store or run errands, try and do them during the day.  But obviously you can't let fear of attack control where you travel and when, so stay safe.

The best thing you can do for SD, rather its armed, un armed, or with a platoon of mall ninjas watching your back is...

pay attention.

The hard part for Phil is that he's in Australia. They have very tough gun and knife laws..............you probably know that from your Triple Canopy days. Phil is one of several great Aussies on the site.

Welcome again and once again, thanks for your service. You seem to be making your way around the site just fine. Glad that you joined us!!!

Awareness, the antithesis of Fat dumb and happy, as we call it here in TX. There is no greater response in a gun fight, than not BEING THERE. I do often have my hand or hands in my pockets, cradling a pistol there, pumping gas, in the checkout line, but awareness is where it all begins. I don't want to fight today, or tonight, it might not be my choice, so I am going to do my part to avoid it. If the fight starts, I damn well mean to end it, without drama, just solid shooting.

a buddy of mine got into a bar fight while carrying a few years back. he got a broken nose and 2 ribs because he didnt want to draw down on a bar full of security contractors. sometimes firearms just escalate the situation.

If a firearm is required then it must be applied, not wielded, you only have few seconds to apply it, deescalation is paramount, but never say never, as someone here has said, a gun shaped solution is not always the best defense, but when it is, apply it, with no remorse.
