On the poll 9 people say that they clean after every time they shoot, but the comments make it sound like Texas-Bry and I are the only ones. Waaaas up? ;D

Reality is perception, eh?   ;D  We have good intentions to clean after every time we shoot...but then........  8)

I clean after every trip to the range or hunt.  I enjoy cleaning weapons, I'm also the sucker that cleans everybody's guns after a day dove hunting. :P  I've gotten really good after a couple of years of cleaning them.  The only gun I don't enjoy cleaning...Marlin 60.

Dang! I'm moving to Texas to be closer to my new gun cleaner, uh… range buddy!

I was packing to move back to Texas until the sad Marlin news... Probably find my wife's Winchester 190 would be just as bad, heh? They seem twins, though I must admit to cleaning like the barrel and (okay a little) the chamber and squirting oil in about all the cleaning I ever did on it- after finally piecing back together my Marlin and making new plastic pieces. (Didn't you have to do that three handed snaking the stupid oily spring back in a centimeter at a time.. about three times before getting it?) I figure if they get too bad to shoot I'd sooner buy a new plinker than face THAT circus. Maybe taking apart the Win wouldn't be the same nightmare, but I'd sooner buy a new Ruger rather than find out. If I hadn't been poor I'd have tossed the marlin way back then.

I never thought they were that bad. I have 2 Mark II's and my grandfather's old Mark I and the only pain is the takedown and re-assembly. I always have to refer to the manual to remember which way I need to tip the gun for the latch to catch. I keep some of those rubber coated paper clips in my cleaning kit, for the takedown notch on the back of the grip. They are seriously some of the most fun guns to shoot, so they're worth it.

I at least wipe down my guns with a light coat of oil even if I just take them out of the safe to play with.  Everytime I take them out in the field and even a single shot is fired I do a full detail strip and cleaning when I get home.  It's not unusual for me to clean them at the range more than once.

At leaste MY MKIII has had powder & fouling inside the trigger mechanism after several shots...  Boresnakes are GREAT!, but you still should strip the gun in my opinion.  Also allows you to check for wear, or other issues (paronoia maybe).

We're just a bunch of election judges here  ;)

I am the proud owner of two Mark III's.  Looking forward to the day I can strip, clean and reassemble without a printed page in front of me.

I don't disagree with you at all.  It's just that.....
