All the non-catalog Winchesters are 3X what I want to spend. So I'm back to Marlin vs. Mossberg again, and I know squat about the Mossy.

I've seen one, never handled it or shot it. Just for that reason I would go with the Marlin.

Now that you pin me down I have no idea, it was a "something" Wall, I thought he said Low wall. I know the difference but I don't remember which this was.

I prefer the 336 because mounting scopes is fast and with lever evolution ammo a 30-30 becomes a real show stopper.

My Marlin 336c in.30-30 is the go to rifle for gun hunting right now. It has a Ghost Ring rear sight and a post front sight which I replaced the dovetail and hood sights for. I like the rear site closer to my eye. Last year I shot a 4 point blacktail running right to left at about 20 yards and dropped him with one shot (that'd be a 8 pointer to you whitetail hunters), a 3 point blacktail at about 80 yards standing broadside, and a nice hog at 100 yards. Dumped all three of them. 6+1 capacity gives a decent amount of shots available. Just a good, solid rifle.   
Don't know anything about Mossberg.
