I remember a few years ago a polar bear tried to crawl through a window to eat a family in Alaska.  The teenaged boy in the house shot it 13 times with a .357 before he killed it.  If you have bear problems you do need a big gun.

He reloaded three times? I admire the stick to it-inveness, but wouldn't running away been smarter?

No place to run.  The bear was out to kill and eat them.  It has circled the house several times seeking a way in before it chose the window.

Yes, you need to keep bear medicine around.  We have a 12ga 870 short barrel loaded full with slugs for just such occasion.  We have already had one incident with a grizz, thankfully not in the house.

I really would rather deal with these 4 legged creatures of nature anyway.  They are more predicable than the 2 legged kind.
