Correct, but remember also that the old square sailed rigging mostly collected wind from abaft (from the stern) thereby pushing the stanky away from the ship rather than wafting verily across her decks from the bow!

Also the stern cabins were smoother sailing and traditionally housed the captain and other officers.   Couldn't have the crew doing there business over the captains windows now could we?
