What sling do you prefer on your AR?
« on: September 22, 2009, 11:48:13 AM »
Title says it. Y'all know by now I'm building an AR, and I'm looking for suggestions. I saw one on Best Defense: Survival that Rob had on his that was changeable from Single point to two point that I liked. (Rob could you remind us which one that is?) I'm gonna get a single point sling mount to put on the gun so I'll have that Option if I ever want it, but I may just stick with a regular 2 point sling. So what are your suggestions far an AR 15 sling?

I'm not big on rifle slings, but I don't shoot NRA High Power either. With that said I really like the padded VTAC Sling that was shipped with my LWRC rifle. It is very comfortable, looks good, and fits well. This is the only photo I have of it, (bottom), but you can run a search on it and I'm sure you'll gather a lot more info.   Bill T.

VTAC sling hopping around the farm.

A USGI web sling (Garand or M14), or a 1907 leather sling is what I use for out hunting and Appleseeds.

I have an old GI nylon sling on my Bushmaster. It works fine.

I have Vickers Slings on the M&P and XCR. Very well made and designed.

I HAD a LaRue Tactical sling with clips on my Sabre/Stag until the clip let go in a training class doing transitions. The rifle ended up landing in a puddle.  Very un-cool!  It was the second one that the instructor had seen do that. No more quick clips on weapons for me.

I like the $5 army surplus slings because I'm cheap and they work.

I have a Blackhawk 3 point Swift sling but I've thought about a single point.  I've been doing more weak hand transitions and the sling will expand to allow for it but doesn't go back the other way very well.  Since I'm typically shooting 3-Gun I don't always need a sling but need to be able to transition between pistol/rifle and back.

For a quick heads up on the the VTAC sling...
The person who has nothing for which his is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
