TALLAHASSEE | Officials say qualified individuals can shorten the time it takes to get a concealed weapon license by visiting one of eight licensing division regional offices.

Florida Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Charles H. Bronson said Monday that he is trying to relieve congestion caused by an unprecedented number of new applications.

Bronson estimates that applicants who apply in person can expect to receive their licenses in two to three weeks, rather than two to three months for people who mail in applications.

While the state licensing division received a total of 91,000 concealed weapon permit applications in 2008, the division received 96,000 applications in just the first six months of 2009.

Active Florida weapon permits total about 650,000.

No wonder the process has sped up, with Charles Bronson as the Commissioner.   ;D

I love waking up every morning knowing that Donald Trump is President!!

Hmm.

ND's just got harder. They added a clause for new permits to require range testing to improve the reciprocity levels. Previously, no range test, only limited reciprocity.

We get to keep the old ones, but they still have limited reciprocity, or we can get range tested and get wider reciprocity. As of now I think it's 3 new states have agreed with the new tests and granted reciprocity where they hadn't before.

That sounds like a good deal to me. Do it or don't your call. I wish Fl. had that option, but our reciprocity is pretty good as is. It sucks for the new permits, but honestly, if its anything Tx. all you have to do is shoot 70% on a 20 round course at a sillouette from (my memory maybe faulty here) ranges from 3 to 20 yards. Not exactly a huge hurdle.

When I had my CCW and when I just went for the test ( moved back to the county I had my CCW in), you can do it blind folded.

man sized target at 3yd, you must hit them 6 out of 10.  there is no time limit, its from a low ready postion.

I don't see how anyone could fail that( but I'm sure its happend)

personally, I'm not so much worried about the shooting, I'm more worried about them un/hulstering, safely loading and unloading the guns.  your going to do those actions alot more then shooting.  Its also where most NDs happen.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

I live in one of those really f..ked up states and mine took about three days.

Only requirement was a 4 hour NRA basic pistol safety course and make the application to your local Chief of Police...he makes the call, not the state.  Once I have it, it cannot be taken away unless I do something stupid...

The whole process took less than a week....so I guess things are not so bad up here....just gotta play by the rules.

Us FL residents are "shooting" for a MILLION CCW's by the 2010 elections....

Let the Brady Bunch Suck My Glock on that many CCW holders in ONE state...

OK,............ I got some Buffalo Wings and some good Pilsner for the corner...

There is a shooting test required for CCW in my state as well. When I got mine, I took the test with my buddy and it was literally his second time ever shooting a hand gun................ he passed easily ;)

In FL you have to 'demonstrate' familiarity with a firearm. DD214, Hunting cert, CCW class, or an NRA approved shooting discipline.
