Hand "Cannons"
« on: October 13, 2009, 01:27:39 PM »
How many like to shoot the really big stuff? These are a few of mine.

Remington XP-100 in .35 Remington. Fajen laminated Coffee stock, Burris 2.5-8X with Leupold mounts.

A couple of Magnum Research BFR Revolvers. One in .45-70, the other in .500 S&W Magnum.

Not much of a pose, but considering they are muzzle heavy as hell, and run right around 5 pounds each empty, it's not too bad. I wouldn't want to face her in a dark alley at night! Just something about women and guns. Gotta have both!  Bill T.

I've never shot a hand cannon, but I gotta admit I'd love one of those Magnum Research BFRs in 30-30!

I've had my eye out for one for over 2 years now, but have never seen one for sale. I don't know if they ever went into production with them. I think they might have been plagued with "set back". It is the same problem that took the Smith & Wesson Model 53 revolver out of production back in the 60's, and made it a collectors item. It came with 2 cylinders to fire both .22 L.R. as well as the .22 Jet cartridge. It was a .357 Magnum case that was necked down with a gradual taper to .22 cal. The problem was if the chambers were not very clean and dry, the case would slip against the chamber walls and set back against the frame of the gun, thereby tying it up. Seeing as the .30-30 cartridge is a bottle necked rifle cartridge it might have produced the same issues.

I had listened to Tom Gresham's radio show "Gun Talk" a couple of years ago, and he had the President of Taurus International on his show. He was all excited about a .223 revolver the company was planning to bring out in just a few short months. I even called in and talked to him live on the air because I was interested in getting one. It never happened. I'm guessing cartridge set back was the reason.  Bill T.

Taurus did have the Raging Bee .218 bee revolver.

I sold off all my large Contender barrels.

All I have in this category is this little thing.

.300 savage necked down to 7mm, called a 7mm IHMSA.
