New Wheelgun!
« on: November 08, 2009, 11:59:01 PM »
Went to the gun show at Big Town yesterday, and picked me up a gun I've wanted for ten years. S&W 649 in .357 Mag! Been carrying it in my pocket since. I now own a J-frame. I gotta say I Love it! Now I need to shoot it to see what loads it likes, and eventually get Laser grips for it. Probably LG-405's for better concealability. Got it in a cheap pocket holster, but I want to get a better one. Something leather, with a closed muzzle. Will post J-Frame porn as soon as I can. 8) Now what should be NEXT on the list? I'm thinkin maybe a .357 Lever action with a 16 in barrel and large loop. ;D Oh that reminds me, A guy had one on his table, a Rossi, for $525, then when I set it down, he handed me a Pre-Safety Rossi .45 Colt JUST LIKE one my dad used to have. Asked what he was asking for it, he said $500. Made dad and I wish he'd bought 12 of them when he got his for $200 10 years ago.

Good buy on the J frame. Just remember the downside. Its not meant to shot a lot with .357. Still, who cares, shoot ehough SD loads to figure out what it likes and you to get comfortable with and then practice with .38. A great gun. As far as the Rossi, from what I've heard, I think you will get your money's worth at around $500. The more I've looked at their stuff, shotguns to carbines, the more impressed I've gotten. It's hard to find a bad word.

Yeah, That Rossi .45 dad had was an awesome rifle. Plenty accurate at 50 yards. DEFINITELY worth the $200 dad gave for it. He's kicked himself once or twice for getting rid of it.

Why are you carrying around a gun you have never fired?

Carry something else until you get to the range with it.

.02 cents

Nice gun though.

Does the J frame have the safety lock ?
Just my $.02 but if I were getting the lever gun and revolver I would get them in the same caliber, and since you already have 1 .357 that is what I would get.
Personal preference, I've never shot a .45 colt.
However in the interest of having as many guns in as few calibers as possible I will point out that you can even find a 1911 in .357 Mag.

I wonder how those run.  .357 in an auto would be pretty cool.

I saw one in a gun store once, grip seemed somewhat larger than a .45. but I did not get to shoot it.

Yes it does have the safety lock.

I've seen a Coonan at gun shows a couple times. if I remember right, they've long been discontinued, and it makes me wonder where you'd find parts if you needed them. I'd like to fire one but I probably wouldn't own one.
