Same as video games and comics, not that I read the latter, you want to introduce it to a new generation.  As long as you RESPECT the original than I don't mind remakes.
Agreed, but that respect is hard to earn. Those of us who grew up in the '80's weren't taught to duck and cover, but the Cold War was real. Shows like "The Day After" resonated. I'm not sure you can build that connection with a generation that doesn't get that. The whole thing seems silly without that Cold War angst. Does anyone seriously think Al Queda, or for that matter Russia, China or the UN will invade us? Without that "oh crap" factor, I just see a B grade action flic, which would be sad. Red Dawn was a classic for its time, but that time has passed. Try something new.

While I look forward to the movie.  Problems I see (speaking as the parent of a modern day teen).

I'd guess that of the 2,000 kids in the local high school, maybe 5% could survive one week in the woods even WITH supplies, before surrendering in hopes of plugging in their Ipods, a warm bed, and somebody to cook & serve their food to them.

Looking at the school parking lot, I see every Japanese car made, corvette's, new GTO's, BMW's, and the occasional modern SUV.  NOTHING that's going function as an escape vehicle (remember the 4wd, lifted chevy pickup they got away in).

Even if one of the kids parents owned a store, what are the odd's they would have supplies the kids needed?  Bed Bath and Beyond ain't cuttin it.

Our populus today simply lacks the knowledge and fortitude to resist at all.  Sorry, it's just what I see on a day to day basis that makes me believe these things.  I travel all over the country, and yes, there are a VERY few area's that might be exceptions.

Ask yourselves seriously.  Would my kids and their friends make it?  Seriously?  Now's your time to do something about that!

You are absolutely right sir! Hell, I'm thirty years old, and I know many people that are my age that wouldn't be able to make it on their own. Granted, MOST people I know would do just fine. They are avid outdoor people, camping, hunting, fishing, and many with military backgrounds. But for instance, my girlfriend, and just about everyone she knows, would be in a world of hurt, if they weren't with someone who knew what to do.

I have been slowly getting her used to the idea of preparedness. I think she is starting to come around, and actually starting to become interested in self sufficiency. My sister (19) by comparison, has no clue, and doesn't even want to acknowledge that anything bad could ever happen.

Our whole society has become soft. Too many conveniences. Too many toys. Ever sat and watched peoples reactions when the power goes out for a couple hours? It's actually quite sad.... ::)

Ask yourselves seriously.  Would my kids and their friends make it?  Seriously?  Now's your time to do something about that!

Point well made gentlemen. I don't have kids and am the last one in the world to give parenting advice. However, I do think a little HTFU wilderness training would not be a bad idea. In my case, it was my dad getting sick of my sh-t and sending me to Outward Bound when I was 15. Best money he ever spent and the best three weeks I can remember. It was one of the few thngs we agreed on back then, and damned if he wasn't shocked when I got off the plane and thanked him for sending me.  ;). I developed a lifelong love for backpacking, whitewater and rock climbing and got a lot of self confidence I didn't have before. It is (or was back then) a great program. There was no boot camp BS, and the instructors were all sweetness and light unless you were being a jerk. They just let the NC mountains kick your ass and laughed while it was happening.  ;D The lessons were learned the real way. Nobody yelled because they didn't need to. It was reality 101 and if I had a kid, they would be on their way when they were old enough. Even if you take your kid camping, I still think this is a good idea as it takes thejm out of their comfort zone and forces them to interact with strangers in a new place. A life lesson in itself.

Red Dawn the original was great. Not sure about a remake :-\

That's funny, Tom Cruise' son Conner!  I thought it was illegal to buy people these days!  My wife and I were looking to adopt about 15-16 years ago and were willing to take just about any child we could.  The waiting list was seven years long!  These holywierd folks make a phone call and drop a hundred large and PRESTO!  Fatherhood....

Disgusting.

I agree.  Off topic, to be sure, but my wife and I wanted to adopt about 20 years ago, but were told we didn't meet income guidelines.  When we met their frigging income guidelines they wouldn't put us on the list because by the time the 7 year wait was over the wife would have been over 40.  All we wanted was a kid to raise, nourish, cherish and love, but noooooooooooooooooooo.

SOrry, I guess what I thought had become a scar was still just a scab....prone to bleeding when picked at.
I love waking up every morning knowing that Donald Trump is President!!

Hopefully, that's a good thing.  An "unknown" cast may result in a remake that more closely resembles the original instead of a star-driven tour de crap.  This cast would also be more consistent with the original, since (Swayze, Sheen) had not yet achieved "star" status when the original was made.  That is, if memory serves me correctly.  :)

Check the "star power" in the Outsiders:

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them
