Reasons I'd prefer bolt action in a rifle.
Single shot: Needs cartridges carried externally (easy to drop, exc.)
Lever: Tend to not run well dirty, less accurate, impossible to clean properly, examples I've shot had VERY inconsistant feel to action and trigger, pain to shoot from a rest or laying down, heavier, tube magazine limits ammo choices.
Semi auto: Added weight, complexity leads to less reliability and more rapid wear, rifles reliability depends largely on interchangeable magazines, tend to not run well dirty, less accuracy, no single round loading, light loads lead to jamming, difficult to clean properly, throw and damage brass, encourages poor shooting from most people.
Pump: Super for shotguns! Just feels unnatural in a rifle

heavy, impossible to clean properly (from chamber end), loose forearm is bad news for long range shooting skills, (sorry dad, never have liked your 7600

).
Of course there are exceptions to most any rules, but generaly speaking... I'll take the bolt action.
