FTA: "Yonathan Melaku, a Lance Corporal Marine corps (sic) reservist who lives in Virginia and who is Muslim, has been identified as the suspect in custody, Fox News has learned.
Sources close to the investigation also said a notebook believed to belong to the man was found containing threatening phrases like "Al Qaeda," "Taliban rule" and "defeated coalition forces."
...
Law enforcement officials also told Fox News that police found five pounds of a substance labeled ammonium nitrate inside the backpack -- field tests, however, came back negative. "

Are you even listening to yourself Path? Lets try this in a Fox "News" to English translation.
1) They arrested a Marine reservist in Arlington National Cemetery.
2) He had a back pack full of an inert substance (eg something other than a bomb or bomb making materials)
3) Someone with the same name was popped a few months ago, but we don't know if it was him, or if this was just thrown in extraneously to make him look bad.
4) He was acting alone. eg , he was a guy in his car, with no ties to anybody, carrying nothing illegal, who was arrested at a cemetery where fellow Marines were buried and now his name is splashed around as public enemy number 1?
Look, maybe he is a bad guy, but I'm having flashbacks to Ashcroft and "The Dirty Bomber" and "The Miami Seven". Sorry, but the Fox report seems to raise a lot more questions than it answers and their chump of a reporter didn't ask any of them, just vomited back the DOJ press release. A real journalist (are there any of those left on ANY network?) would have asked a simple question. "Since he didn't break any laws, and no charges have been filed, why is he being held and under what authority"? 'Cause frankly, I'd like to hear the answer to that. Of course, I'm an old fart and like quaint antiques like the Writ of Habeas Corpus (its silly I know). >:( Just my .02.

Where are the "threatening phrases". You could find their pathetic examples in posts here.
Sounds like bullshit to me.

Wow, Tom, FQ and I agree.
Until something definitive is release from a source Who Willl Let HIS/HER name be used I will wait and see.
I've been involved in one "the sky is falling" event at the puzzle palace. I tend to be much more suspect now.

Scary isn't it . :o
I'm going to buy a lottery ticket. ;D

Wasn't someone asking about "End Time" signs?

I know it's something of a stretch, but I am still frosted by TSA groping Grandma, a 6-month old baby and a special needs kid, while letting mooslims walk through security without a second glance.
On top of that, the back-bending and gyrations after Ft. Hood to not point a finger at the mooslim aspect, plus the fraggings that occurred in Iraq by mooslim US soldiers.
Cain caught unholy hell for saying he would not have a mooslim in his cabinet, and at this point I would vote for him for that statement alone.
Then to find out this guy is a freakin' Marine Reservist? WTF? Do we not vet people anymore? It's bad enough my son is in Marine boot and will someday have people trying to kill him. I just would wish they were not his fellow Marines like this wanker.

In all seriousness, I get exactly where you are coming from.......... it would just be nice if these "sources close to the investigation" MSM clowns and such would report factual details.....and if they do not have more details, then don't give information that causes conclusion-drawing prematurely.
-
I'm with Peg here.
I thought of Ft Hood , among other"non terror related" acts of violence by US Muslims when I was posting, but I'm also aware of how willing the Marines are to "Good of the Service" discharges. Col "Red Mike" Edson nearly got one before WWII.
Because of the way he was pushing Mao's tactics of unconventional warfare it was thought he might have gone a little "pink". Even though his tactical theories were born out by his and Carlson's Raider Battalions, and the Recon Battalions that evolved from them the suspicion of him persisted. One Butler was enough.
What is more likely is that the cops stumbled into a "security exercise", where one man, or a group, often Recon guys , attempt to penetrate security . I was involved in one of these in Naples back in the 70's when Navy Seals attempted to penetrate the security of my ship.
Then of course with "unnamed sources", and half assed information, the local media tries to fill a slow news cycle.

And therein lies the problem. 24-hour, all-news outlets with nothing but time to fill, and tons of competition. It causes a race to get it first, whether or not they get it right.

Bingo! How about the prize goes to "I got it right", rather than "I got it first"?

Saw it starting way back some years ago.
I used to call it the "Huntley-Brinkley Syndrome" when reporting and the personalities doing it became more important than the news itself.

Before you go all medieval on Muslims and question their loyalty, remember the anti-Catholic bias in in the UK and the colonies. There was a real fear that you couldn't be a good Catholic and a good American. That persisted until JFK in 1960. Hell, Mitt Romney is dealing with it (in terms of Mormonism) today. ::)

Oh, my, you really are a huge f..king tool.
This is not some vague worry about JFK putting the Pope ahead of this country (I personally remember hearing that slander). This is about a group of people who have wished us dead because we exist, and have acted repeatedly on that wish. All mooslims? I'd say no, but the koran says otherwise. Do all have the strength or desire to act on the koran? Again, I'd say no.
But - and this is the money quote - the majority does nothing to stop the minority that does act on the wish to destroy us and others like us - who are not like them. As long as that continues, you need to be damn careful about what positions of authority, power and control you allow them to hold. If you turn a blind "tolerant" eye to this fact, you deserve whatever hits you.
-
Hold on Path, you are wrong to dump on FQ this time. While the fears about Kennedy were unfounded they were lingering remnants of a very real threat to protestants by the Catholic church and every bit as much intrigue and violence as we see now from muslims.

Quick question Path. I'm a born again Christian (in the theological, not political sense). I came to God when I was 25. How much do I have to doto distance myself from Randall Terry and other "pro-life" extremists? What sort of statements should I make? How do I distance myself from the Westboro Baptist Church? Just asking.

You should have quit while I was defending your opinion. You said the one more thing that turned it stupid.
How hard is it to say suicide bombings are bad ? How hard is it to say that you shouldn't fly an airliner into a skyscraper , or blow up airliners in flight ?
But they don't do that, they dance in the streets, and they celebrate the perpetrators as "hero's".

Its a practical question Tom. Yeah, I could have stayed quiet and scored a point against Path and Rastus. But that's not what this is about. I have a certain belief. Others claim to have the same and use it to do violence in the street blowing up clinics, and to push a political agenda that I despise because it institutes the nanny state. What should I do? Do I say they don't love God as much as I do? Do I call them pharisees? Or do I just tell them I think they are wrong and and let it go? If its not easy for an Episcopalian, I doubt its easy for a reasonable Muslim. This is the reason religion and politics shouldn't mix. Jesus had it right, render to Ceasar what is Ceasar's and to God what is God's.

If you weren't so wedded to - and blinded by - moral equivalence this wouldn't even be a discussion.
You keep dredging up the very worst of current actions by so-called Christians who are clearly wrong based on any kind of reading of the Bible. And even so, you miss the obvious distinction. Give me one example in the last decade of a so-called Christian killing mooslims for their faith or their existence. And yet, I can give you dozens of examples in this country alone of mooslims killing Americans simply for being Americans. Starting with (not the first, just a decade ago) the 9/11 attack.
Even in the so-called Christian examples you state, no one dies. The Westboro a$$holes stand around with vile and offensively wrong signs and then skedaddle for their cars when it becomes obvious that they are rather seriously outnumbered. Terry loses elections. You can and should call them - not Philistines - the hypocrites that they are. Just like Jesus labeled the Pharisees with hypocrisy - to their faces. You can also do like so many do with the Westboro folks and stand guard between them and the family of the soldier who died. You can act, openly and publicly against their apostasies.
If a "reasonable" mooslim (to use your phrase) actively protests the actions of those who act, they die.
See any differences yet?

This is a PM I posted to Path. I generally keep these private, but am posting it with his permission. I would also hope he would post his reply to me as well. Anyway, enough disclaimers. Here's the post:
Path
You and I rarely agree. But the fact is, as much as I disagree with you, I thank you for your last post. It made me think a bit. I try to see people as individuals and tend to disregard ideology/religion as boiler plate as we all interpret it differently (even if we claim to be literalists ::)). Still, there is a point at which one has to say "enough, I'm not dealing with this except at swords point". As an academic and Episcopalian, both of which traditions say that almost everything can be argued out and settled rationally, I dislike your premise. However, facts are stubborn things whether you like them or not. Thanks for the reminder Path. I may not like it, but I think you are right on this one. Sometimes, force is required.

Thank you for this note. Did you notice you started out saying you disagreed with me and then agreed with me? Just had to point that little tidbit out! ;D
For the record, I have said for years - since well before 9/11 in fact, that the mooslims need a serious Reformation ala Luther on freakin' steroids. Once that happens, we can live with them. Until then, we always have to watch our backs, and question those mooslims in our midst. Given the koran's approval of infidel murder, lying, cheating, et al., I see no other way.
If you think it appropriate, post your reply to me, or a facsimile thereof, in the original thread. It's not about my ego needing to be massaged. Quite the contrary, I appreciate the personal contact and am willing to leave it at that. However, the rest of the crew might benefit from your observation re' the contrast between reason, and finally understanding that there is no reasoning with evil.
Thanks.

So basically what you are saying is you would vote for a child molester if he had a good domestic and foreign policy ?
The ends justify the means ?
Only an idiot would believe it is possible to separate ones opinions on Right Vs Wrong, from their opinion of what constitutes good government.

Huh? I don't see where that tangent came from. This was simply a matter of critiquing evil from within, not tolerating it. For that you should see your local mosque or Cardinal Law.
