Yep, that's exactly right shooter and Tom. I thought the Thompson was a cool idea, mostly since all the TV hunters were having such a good time with them and I bought into the versatility of the system. I bought the basic Encore with a .30-06 barrel, then added a 12 ga Turkey barrel. The -06 barrel is 24" and I bought the synthetic stock. Poor choice. Too light of a combination and the recoil was pretty harsh. After a few shots one of the forearm posts broke. There was a lot of side to side movement in the lock which I fixed with an after market part, and when I started researching improvements to accurize it I gave it up...It just didn't work for me like I envisioned it would. I decided to keep it as my Turkey shotgun since it fills that role very well...but I can't sell the -06 and .270 barrels to anyone. No one's buying them. I'd love to buy a Ruger M77 in .270 or .30-06, which is what I sold to buy this gun. Right now the rifle has a .270 barrel and wood forearm. That seems to work well and I've shot a few deer and pigs with it. I also thought I'd like the single shot aspect of it. But I don't. Out here hunting deer and pigs in the Calfiornia coastal range there is definately a need to have a second quick shot. There has been more than once when I wished I have wished I had the second shot at the turn of the bolt instead of having to break open the action, pick out the spent case, and go through the loading, closing, cocking the hammer routine.
If anyone wants to buy the rifle barrels let me know. I'll make you a deal...
