While chatting with the secretary at my County's Sheriff's Office, I asked what could be done to get a permit renewed if one worked during the hours the front desk was open (8-5 M-F). Her response floored me. She said, "Like a driver's license, this is a privilege, so you have to abide by our hours." Before I could think, I replied, "No, actually it's a Constitutional right, and it's NOTHING like a driver's license. If it were like a driver's license it would be honored everywhere." She gave me the evil eye and said nothing. I did not go any further, either, since she had yet to hand me my new permit.
It just floored me. 2A rights are now a privilege? Where the hell am I?
