We Just Had An Earthquake !
« on: April 04, 2010, 06:09:01 PM »
3:44 Phoenix time. The kitchen chandelier was swinging, and the pool water was sloshing back and forth. Sam and the cat were running around like the world was ending. Really weird.  Bill T.

The U.S. Geological Survey has reported a 6.9 magnitude earthquake at 3:40 p.m. in Baja California. The center was located 16 miles south-southwest of Guadalupe Victoria.

That is approximately 108 miles east-southeast of Tijuana. The depth of the quake was 20.1 miles.

An aftershock of magnitude 3.4 struck three miles south-southwest of Julian at 3:55 p.m. Another aftershock, a 5.1 magnitude, hit 4 miles north-northwest of El Centro at 4:15 p.m.

Moments after the quake, dozens of North County residents clicked onto the USGS Web site and filled in the "Did you feel it" questionnaire. Most locals reported feeling it in light to moderate intensities, with zero to light damage.

Global Warming  ;D

Glad you're ok ... even if the pets are frazzled.  What about Mel ... Did she need comforting and consoling, or did she take care of you  ;)

Did anything fall over in the safe???? ::)

Wouldn't want any scratches or dings,.... ;)

Glad you and Mel just got a shaking not a stirring...

You may have beachfront property soon, if the San Andreas fault takes some of CA, back to the ocean...

I was sitting in the Lay-Z-Boy and I saw the kitchen light swinging. Mel went out in the backyard, and both mine and the neighbors pool was sloshing back and forth. The pendulum of the grandfather clock started banging into the chimes. That was about it. No guns or ammo fell over. I may have to start buying heavier guns now!  Bill T.

Sounds similar to when I experienced a New Madrid fault earthquake. I was in college, taking an extra-curricular Judo class, and I distinctly remember the wall across from me moving left then right as I moved right then left. Weird experience.

Glad everyone is cool, no dings or dents. And I'm talking about the arsenal collection, as well as you or Mel!!  ;D

Cool. I wasn't even aware there was a tectonic plate or whatever near there.

I've really only felt one and it was strange. The whole building felt like it was twisting on its foundation. Thank god for building codes.

... Ah, I see it ocurred between the Pacific and North Amercan plates near mexicali. I guess it's not a stretch that you felt it in AZ.
