The U.S. Geological Survey has reported a 6.9 magnitude earthquake at 3:40 p.m. in Baja California. The center was located 16 miles south-southwest of Guadalupe Victoria.
That is approximately 108 miles east-southeast of Tijuana. The depth of the quake was 20.1 miles.
An aftershock of magnitude 3.4 struck three miles south-southwest of Julian at 3:55 p.m. Another aftershock, a 5.1 magnitude, hit 4 miles north-northwest of El Centro at 4:15 p.m.
Moments after the quake, dozens of North County residents clicked onto the USGS Web site and filled in the "Did you feel it" questionnaire. Most locals reported feeling it in light to moderate intensities, with zero to light damage.
