Congrats, BAC.  My first auto pistol was a Colt Gov. Model 70 and I still think the 1911 is the  most striking and good looking sidearm out there.

Looks like it has everything really needed.

Two options some folks consider are an arched mainspring housing, which is purely a comfort/fit issue, and the other is getting the grip safety pinned, which is done by folks who worry about their weapon being disabled should then not manage to get a firm grip before they need to make a shot.  Others worry more about the the gun firing when not intended.

Question:  How are the Springfield magazines?  I just found a coupon that came with the 1911.  I can get 7 round mags directly from Springfield for $12 and 10 rounders for $17.  It's a one-time deal.  Any feedback on the Springfield mags is greatly appreciated.

I'm not a 1911 guy, but its hard to beat factory mags, and the price seems right. As far as mods? I'd put a few hundred rounds through it before messing with it. It really is a pretty gun (for a rust bucket). ;D

I've never had any problems with factory magazines.  I've only had problems with one magazine - I believe it was a Star that came with one of the 1911s I bought second hand.  I usually run eight round magazines in my 1911s.

Geeze, we got between 14 and 22 inches here Weds. day and streets and sidewalks were usable Thursday, bare on friday.
