Well I took the 1911 into Ace Sporting goods tonight on my way to Columbus.  I was thinking they could send it back to Springfield Armory for me.  The guy I spoke to had their gunsmith take a look at it.  It turns out there was a broken part on the pistol.  See if you can find what's missing in the photo below:

The end of the part that holds the slide stop in place (sorry I don't know the proper name for it) was broken off.

He replaced the part and shot a couple mags of ammo through it without a hiccup.  I was in and out in 20 minutes!  I'm really liking this place.  Will let you know after I get to a range if that fixed it.

P.S.  That reminded me of the time I was at a range that had a Glock 19 rental gun with a broken slide stop.  The slide locked open after every round fired.  But Glocks never break!  They're perfect.   ;)

It would be very easy to overlook that plunger. I'm glad it was something that simple.

Damn, BAC....glad the problem was found and is an easy fix.  :D  :D

And now I'm really mad that I didn't think of that........and not because it stands out or anything, but because of an experience 20 years ago at a gun show. I missed a chance at a Colt Gold Cup for $300 because of the same problem (guy didn't know what he had and just wanted to dump the "piece of junk" !!!!) but wouldn't take a personal check.

Ouch.  A Gold Cup for $300?  Bummer about the check.

I don't guess I can blame the guy really. I probably wouldn't have taken a check from a total stranger either. The guy didn't know much about guns, but he had a Remington 700 in 30-06 and the Gold Cup. He said a guy owed him $700 for some construction work that he did and then couldn't pay for it after the work was done, so he gave him the guns in exchange. Crappy thing is, I had the cash earlier but had bought a bunch of other stuff and was down to around $100 cash.

OK, this is probably my last post on the subject.  I went to a range today and was able to shoot 50 rounds of really expensive cheap reloaded range ammo.  No problems, no issues, just a lot of fun!  I believe it's fixed.

Here's the obligatory picture of my target:

That was the last 22 rounds from 7 yards.  The room key is for reference, and to prove that I did in fact stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night (and tonight, and tomorrow night).  I am in love!   :)
