Getting fired is one thing, going to jail is a different matter. Carry some thing else, like that heavy lap top. Is a knife an option ?

yes but carry in IL is totally verboten - so in my estimation I'm more likely to get sideways of the law getting caught with a firearm than I'm am to get caught up in an active shooter thing (which didn't even come to mind the other day - gee thanks pal)

It does make the 'seven seconds to safety' argument sound a bit more feasible
Its possible I carried illegally in a DC suburb when making night deposits. I was jumpier than a cat on cack because I just knew that that was when I'd get pulled over for some BS and the cop would bust me for the gun. Still, going to an ATM at ten at night with several K in cash made the risk worth it. I never (hypothetically) carried anywhere else as I figured the risk of jail was greater than the risk of being mugged. The BGs on the other hand didn't seem to care. >:(

Do they have metal detectors ? Do you have something that can be deeply concealed ,like an LCP ?
It's easier to get forgiveness than permission.

Tom Gresham has said , and I paraphrase, that there is only one other person that should even know you carry, so that if you're hurt and unable to fight, they can assume the role.

Definitely an individual choice.

I remember the first machine shop I worked in while in trade school, it seemed everyone carried to work.

if my pants are on I've got a knife  ;D  unless I'm headed to the courthouse

Have your musket clean as a whistle, hatchet scoured, 60 rounds powder and ball and be ready to march at a minute's warning.

That's where a plactic knife comes in handy.  ;)

there is a guy that makes a knife out of saphire( man made) that will even beat the metal detectors...  I would not want to get cuaght with it in a court house...
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

In Stephen Hunter's latest book "Dead Zero" the vilian uses a plastic knife to cut the throat of one of the good guys.  Having machined all kinds of plastics, metals and a few ceramics I have come to the conclusion than anything can cut you.

I guess one of the many good things about living in a rural area is they let us keep folding knives in our regular state superior court....Cell phones are a $50 fine, but a 3" folder is OK.
Federal court is a no-go, though. The fed guys even made me take a small key ring knife off my keys for federal jury duty a few years back.
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison
