Congratulations Alf! I used a Gen 4 17 last year for production and after working out the recoil spring issues it was great. If the GSSF will let you, a Wolff striker spring was all my trigger really needed. Cant wait to see pics of that 625....

AND NOW GSSF IS RUINING MY POCKET BOOK and making Larry Potterfield rich.   (Or why Sunday night when the wife pays the bills is not a good time to be order gun stuff.)

Thursday, knowing I was going to get G17, I ordered fiber optic sites from Larry.

Saturday, after trying all my holsters and mag pouches I ordered new holster and pouches just for the Glock.

Tonight, I ordered  the Lone Wolf Armorer's tool specifically to change the front sight.  (well of course that was under the $25 minimum order so I had to throw in some other parts.   "HAD TO DEAR.  I'm saving money on the minimum order fee.")

$50 here, $50 there....next thing you know I'm spending real money.   Dang I better win something at this matches.

You will find Glocks get extremely addictive. I started out like you with one, (a Glock 21). I now have a total of 6. They get shot more than any other make or model handgun I own. You almost get bored of their never ending reliability. A Glock in any flavor, and an AK-47 are the 2 guns I doubt can be beat for self defense.  Bill T.

Don't forget a couple of 33 round mags to go with it. No 9 MM Glock is complete without one!  Bill T.

Okay, IDPA, USPSA and GSSF allow fiber optics, so I've put some HiViz sights on my Glock.

It all came today, the HiViz sights, the holster and mag pouches AND the Glock tool with the thin-walled 3/16 nut driver for removing the front sight.   MidwayUSA's web sight has the wrong picture for the HiViz Glock sight.  They show a dovetail sight, which is wrong.  Glocks have a small bolt that screw into the front sight from inside the slide.  Installation was a breeze.

Now for those who've not used FO sights.  I offer this little picture lesson sights.
[Just an FYI:  When there is very low light, neither regular painted sights nor FO are of much use.  In those cases you must go with a glow in the dark sight such as Trijicon.]

Here's the original Glock white dot with with outline sight when light is from behind the shooter.   Great sight picture.

Now here's what happen when there's still light but it from the front and you're not lit from behind.
If the target is still light then the partridge sites are usable, but you loose the white.

Now let's put on Fiber Optics.

Lit from behind (or all over).

Now with light only from the front.  (Actually in this picture the light is all directed at the target from a source about 3 feet in front of the gun.)   Not as good as when lit from above, but still very visible.

Is their any advantage to fiber optics over Tritium Gas Night Sights, such as those by Trijicon or Meprolight?   Bill T.

I have a G23 with Trijicons.   In full light they just become a white (cream actually) 3 dot and FO, in my opinion has the advantage.   Their forte is in dim to very dim lighting.

For me, in action shooting, the FO is so easy to see, it feels like cheating.  I know some matches have dim/dark stages, but that's mostly IDPA I think.  I standardized on red front and green rear, cause red indicates the dangerous part (the muzzle).       Maybe I'll get two mounts and do side by side pictures.  FO vs Trijicon in rear, front, and dim lighting situations.

Gaston is definitely doing things right.  I messed up on my application to GSSF, and Donna in membership services, sent me an email.  I called her and we spent an hour chatting about Glock, GSSF, and local ranges (it helps she lives and works in my county and we know all the same people).   Point is though, they're marketing with the long term view.   GSSF isn't a money maker, but it definitely is a great for public relations.  (well it may be making a little money, but that is only after a number of years building it up.)

SO:   I'm signed up for 2 years now.   Will get my discount coupon in the mail.   Roughly, depending on model and how much local retailer prices Glocks, my $70 membership will net me around $100 discount!   Am I going for another Glock.  Probably get a G34, because at some point, I'd hope to move out of the beginner class and into the competition with the big boys.

All ready for the "indoor league match" on Saturday.   Will go put another 100 rounds down range today, then a bunch of dry fire tonight.

Alf  (<-- who has grand allusions about is shooting ability and is always depressed to find he's a better shooter in his dreams than on the range.)

Alf,

I wouldn't buy right away...you might win a new Glock at the matches this summer!  Then, I'd be realllllllllll mad!

Richard

PS:  Wish there was a GSSF match closer.

A Glock in the hand is worth two in the Match Prize Box.

Besides, if he wins one after buying one, he now has TWO more of them.

Billt has 6 Glocks....anyone with half that many (as Billt always seems to set the high water mark) can stand tall.  I, proudly, have four!!.
