FQ, I'll think you'll be pleasantly surprised.  :)

As Alf said: "Of course, AMMUNITION MATTERS."

Take a good variety and see what your rifle likes. If you have anything near a decent scope on it, it will hold minute of ground squirrel at 100 easy.
(and they're not as big as tree rats)

Ifin yer from the North we call em 'chipmunks'. ;)
All tipoes and misspelings are copi-righted.  Pleeze do not reuse without ritten persimmons  :D

Different breed down here in the desert. Chipmunks wouldn't last in the heat eating creosote bushes.
I've slayed many a chipmunk during my youth, these are a different species. Close to the same size though.
You can say lots of bad things about pedophiles; but at least they drive slowly past schools.

FQ if you already own a 10/22 then I would just play with different ammo, get a better trigger, and take the barrel band off, to just see if it groups better. My Rugers will normally shoot 3/8 to 1/2" at 50, but both have trigger pull weights of 2-3 lbs and are scoped, 100 yrd groups are 2" or so, no finger pointing, but if you have a .22rf that shoots less than an inch at 100, label it as to never be sold. I shot the Chevy team challenge for several years and have seen the best,  the best was an easy 3k dollars, built by McMillan, with a jewel trigger, their stock and the best of everything, but it takes an exceptional shooter to bring it out. I do recommend the Clark trigger as the most economical.

Marlin uses "micro groove" barrels.  At least the one I have does.  And they work pretty darn good!  I've also got two 10/22's that I LOVE.  10/22's are near the top of my favorite gun list for that matter.  NOTHING from Marlin would even make the top 100. But, if your just looking for a take out of the box shooter...  The Marlin will blow away even the 10/22T with any ammo.  Speaking from experience.  I've tested out to 200 yards many, many times just playing around and learning what the round will really do in different guns.

If your looking for a cheap yet GOOD varmit gun, get a bolt action.  Forget the semi-auto.  They DO encourage bad shooting!  I don't care what anyone claims, and it's NOT just me!   ;)

Went to the pet store the other day and saw they had a prairy dog in a cage for $150 bucks!  FAT little guy.  Goes to show it's all a matter of perspective!  Haz & Quaker should be rounding up lizards to cash in for big $$$ up north!!!

Funny you should mention that. I talked to the HOA yard guy today. We got to talking about his other private work and he mentioned how he'd put down a ton of wood chips for a guniea pig rancher. WTF? Apparently this woman raises the things for pet stores and has 300 of the little beasts running around her back yard (and she doesn't eat them either ;)). So I guess I can do the same with lizards as long as I can find some fool willing to pay for them. Hell, maybe someone will buy the damn squirrel in my back yard, he's already eaten me out of my macadamia nuts, avacados and bannanas. I've gone so far as to name him Belafonte, as in "Please Mr. Tallyman tally me bannanas". The only reason he's still alive is that the dog loves chasing him. If I could get $150 for him I'd be happy as a clam. Hell, I'd take $50 as wholesale. ;D

100 yards with a Tony Kidd 10/22 w/32x scope
(fully modified) Wolf Match ammo (best group ever)
Normal is less than an inch w/no wind, perfect conditions.

++++  That's what I'm talkin' 'bout.   Don't need not stinkin' bolt action when you can do this with a semi-auto
Will work for ammo

FQ, I know a guy who had an iguana back in the late 80's.
The pet store charged him about $30 for it. Figure you can get $10 apeice.
Put in 2 more Habiscus bushes and b!tch all the way to the bank.  ;D
