I am in the market for a security shotgun.  I have looked at both the Remongton 870 and the Mossberg 500.  Can anyone give me some feedback on their opinions on this issue?

The Mossburg has TWO slide rails for a stronger action (I think ) But the 870 is a real good gun, I don't think there is anything to recomend one over the other except price.

The Mossberg is about $100.00 cheaper than the 870 . The 590 can come with a 8 round tube. What ever you chose I would recommend bird shot (6 or7) in a house situation so you will not likely go through the walls and it will still get the job done.

Those are also good points for the Mossberg and you can replace the plastic safety with a metal one.

BOTH ARE EXCELLENT, RELIABLE  DESIGNS WITH PLENTY OF AFTER MARKET PARTS TO CUSTOMIZE TO MEET YOUR NEEDS. WHEN PURCHASING MINE IT CAME DOWN TO COST. AFTER CUSTOMIZING MY MOSSY 500 IT STILL COST LESS THE THE REMINGTON. I'M EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH MY MOSSBERG 835 WATERFOWL(SHADOW GRASS CAMO).

I have a I have friend down state that has a recipe for 2 3/4 inch shells that blows gesse out of the sky better than any 3 inches could ever hope to but man what a recoil! I have shot 3" slugs that did not even compare.
