The day they come to take my guns.
You can never have too many guns, or too much ammo

…There need be no ambiguity about this. Nor is it farfetched. Notice the slave laws are no longer in force, even though they had Supreme Court approval for seventy years. Is it reasonable a Constitutional Amendment invalidated the slave laws, yet another, older Amendment doesn’t invalidate the gun laws? Who today would support a “reasonable compromise” that allows owning slaves with some “common sense” conditions? Nobody. Non-negotiable is non-negotiable. And so is the right to keep and bear arms…

– Ol’ Remus, in the latest Woodpile Report

http://www.woodpilereport.com/html/index-306.htm

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

Currently reading the book - The War of All the People: The Nexus of Latin American Radicalism and Middle Eastern Terrorism by Jon B. Perdue, Stephen Johnson.
Gives a history of lefty groups both abroad and those close to home, how they are connected to lefty/lib/Marxist/socialist people throughout the world. How countries like Mexico have been infiltrated by terrorist groups, how the left isn't fighting from the outside but from within (elected to Gov. positions) to destroy the U.S., how the U.S. better wake up to the threat from the Latin-American countries (Mexico). I feel we get closer to the answer to your question every day.
“As democracy is perfected, the office of the President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people.  On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be occupied by a downright fool and a complete narcissistic moron.”  H.L. Mencken, The Baltimore Evening Sun,  July 26, 1920.

This is exactly what I have been talking about when I harp on America spending decades fighting the wrong Cold War.
The conflict was not between nations, but between idea's.
The threat was not the Soviet Union, but the "progressive" elements infiltrating our own institutions as seen in todays media and education industries.
It is interesting to note that while today's terrorist training camps may be focused on Muslim Jihad, those of the past in places like Libya were often training people from violently opposed factions at the same time, sometimes in the the same class.
For example students from both IRA, and Irish Protestant groups.

My answer to when? is;

Not Now and not Never. I have not been able to narrow it down much more than that yet!

For me one way to say what has made this country great  and unique is its foundation on Individual Liberty which can also be called Individual Responsibility.

So I reframe your question into: At what point does my commitment to Individual Responsibility cause me to choose to revolt and bring down the govt?

I think a more realistic scenario is succession of a state or states (say Utah, Nevada, Arizona) into a liberty zone. I would join at least until the pols and lawyers screwed it up!

I'm sure glad those guys in Lexington and Concord did not think like you.

Target rich post, thank you.  Individual Responsibility was never an easy task, nor should it be.  The problem with society today is that it is very easy to "coast", watching MNF, drinking beer, paying taxes, shuttling kids here and there and cursing politicians for their actions or in-actions but never doing ANYTHING about it.

Succession has been tried and the result was the BLOODIEST war fought on US soil, the one and only Civil War.  Our country is broken, the rules are not being followed and no one, NO ONE, is questioning the actions of the powers that be.  Do you realize that two of the first Supreme Court justices were removed from their posts for being drunk in PRIVATE and for cursing?  We are so far off course it will either take a long haul-gentle-course correction or and immediate hard right.  Neither of which seems to be supported by either political party.

The day will come, it WILL come, when you will have the choice to resist or register/turn in your guns.  If not you, your children.  It sucks I know, no one wants to think it is even possible let alone likely that our .gov will force us to armed resistance- there is a term "Normaliy Bias" that is applicable here, that is it causes people to underestimate both the possibility of a disaster occurring and its possible effects.
He who dares wins.  SAS

Every where through out history people have said "Oh, that can't happen here." right up till the day it does.

Actually I believe that they did think like me. You asked about violence. Not protest or political action or complaining.

Some sort of insurrection today would look like Browns Ferry and be viewed as wacko militias threatening the public if for no other reason than we are geographically mixed in with the sheep. We are not fighting wolves but a chronic wasting disease. We are more like 1700's England than the wilds of America. Our ancestors voted with their feet first and then fought back.

Acting out because you are mad is not a plan it is surrender.
