I made myself a big old skillet breakfast!

Big meal is Sunday, so I'm sure I'll be doing scalped corn, and something with the taters then.  Pies were ready, but I'm making sure she makes new ones for Sunday  ;D

That looks like a Smith Island Cake to me.  Or, a darned good copy.

The Smith Island Cakes originated on Smith Island in the Chesapeake and are like no other cakes.  Legend has it they started with a competition among the Island wives as to who could get the most layers in a cake.

Folks heard about those cakes and started asking for them.  The result was Smith Island Bakery that started on the Island but eventually moved across the Bay to the mainland where both supplies and shipping were easier.

You can order one of those cakes shipped to you, but they are on the pricey side.

I've never had the pleasure, but that sure looks good, Peg.

Mrs. Pegleg made it, indeed.

Just like my grandma used to make.
Twelve layers of yellow cake with cooked chocolate icing poured over each layer as it is stacked.

It's a goodness I can't adequately describe with words.  :D

She makes a key lime cake that's so good the folks at church functions will fight to scrape the last crumbs off the plate.

Considering how sweet Miss Amy is, no further description is necessary!

Give her our best, Chuck!
