Since Al Copeland lost the franchise they've headed down.  Investment bankers talked him into buying Church's Fried Chicken just before the US economy tanked.

Biscuits aren't what they used to be, heck none of it is.  And I have no idea how they can put that much breading on top of the chicken strips....I stopped going because of that.

The last time we had Popeyes was the last time as far as I'm concerned. Food sucked, service sucked and was way over priced. They're building more in our area but so far not in our nearest town.
We do have a Bojangles, and their biscuits and chicken were always better than Popeyes anyway (and they ain't what they were several years ago either). W have a local joint in town that has better chicken....they just don't have biscuits. I went through Bojangles drive-thru the other evening and grabbed a couple of plain biscuits and had those for supper.

Today is red weenie hot dogs and Fritos corn chips.

Had to take mom for an early CT appointment...after I went by Bojangles and had a sausage biscuit.

Are red weenies hot like red hots, or are they just red? I looked online and saw some that are just red, made with artificial color.

I had Italian beef and roasted garlic cheese, with hot giardiniera and crispy fried jalapenos on 4 Parker House rolls for lunch. The sandwiches were taller than they were wide. For breakfast I had 2 boneless pork chops with lots of Cajun seasoning and a little soul seasoning. With hot honey potato chips and Famous Dave's Pickle Sweet & Spicy Pickle Spears on the side. I don't remember for sure if I had chips with my sandwiches. Now I'm going to have macaroni and cheese with a bunch of SUPER SMOKED smoked cheddar cheese. I can't even slice the cheese. It just crumbles apart. This is a very late dinner, and I'll finally go to bed around sunrise.

Just plain ol' weenies that are red. Carolina's Pride is the brand. We have a local meat store that sells them in the 5-for-25 section. They make for good chili dogs.

Around here we don't have any red hot dogs AFAIK. Red Hots are Koegel's Pickled Red Hots, and most of the time, if people want good hot dogs they buy Koegel's Viennas, in an 8 or 24 pack, or a ten pound box for a party, or to ship to friends out of state. One of my friends is a Scout leader, or he was when his kids were Scouts, and he often brings a jar of pickled Red Hots camping. We slice up some of those, and some cheese, and put them in separate Ziploc bags to put on crackers during snack breaks on our ATV rides.

Not many businesses can say they have been around since the early 1900s, but not many businesses are like The Koegel Meat Company.

Albert Koegel came to the Flint area in 1916 to start his own business. Albert's dream turned into reality after talking with a salesman from Armour Foods. The salesman told Mr. Koegel that if he moved to Flint, Michigan, that he would stand a good chance of making the business work, due to the projected growth of the automobile industry.

Albert Koegel began his training in an apprenticeship program in Germany. Here he learned the meat business from the ground up. After completing his apprenticeship, he moved to America and then to Flint to pursue his dream of starting his own meat company.

By the mid 1930s, Albert had built up enough business to construct a plant to produce his meat products. He employed just a handful of workers, nothing compared to the nearly one hundred people employed today. As the number of employees increased, so did sales and the product line.

Koegel Meats... Today

Today Koegel produces about thirty-five different products. They are sold almost exclusively in Michigan with a small percentage going to Toledo, Ohio. The business continues to grow as new stores and territories are added. Additionally, Koegel products have a taste and texture that usually keeps customers buying once they try the product. Our slogan..."Made Up To a Quality...Not Down to a Price" says it all. Today the products are still made using the same recipes and processes that Albert Koegel learned and developed.

Another unique aspect of Koegel Meats business is that they deliver to each individual store. Delivering to each store allows Koegel to place a shelf life on its products which is approximately half of its competitors. This helps to ensure that the end customer is eating a fresh product.

In 1972, Albert Koegel's son built a new manufacturing plant just off Bristol Road, near Bishop Airport in Flint, Michigan. Koegel's moved in on January 21, 1972. This location has proven to be beneficial due to its proximity to I-75 and I-69.

My hot dogs are 108 years old! But they still taste great. Koegel's is a longstanding Michigan tradition. No one can beat their meats. ;D The plant is only 4.5 miles from my house, across the road from the airport and FedEx, and just around the corner from UPS.

I'm eating Maryland-style crab cakes, made with wild caught Maryland Blue Claw Crab meat. I have home-made tartar sauce on them, made of diced kosher dill pickles, Hellmann’s Spicy Chipotle Organic Mayo and regular mayo, hot and spicy mustard, fresh ground garlic pepper blend, and salt. The first crab cake had shells in it, but the rest have been good so far. They were frozen and I spread butter on them before I baked them yesterday. They're VERY brown but not burnt at all. I wasn't surprised that the butter made them brown, but they're darker than I expected. I had the same thing for breakfast, followed by 2 Parker House rolls with butter melted on them for dessert. No sweets, just bread and butter.
