Freezers & Generators Are In Short Supply
« on: December 05, 2020, 08:38:52 AM »
I mentioned this on another forum. My wife has been wanting a freezer for some time now. We finally decided to get one, But they are selling out fast! Lowe's and Home Depot had very few left. And none like we wanted. So we waited, and had an E-Mail notification set up to notify us when the one we wanted came back in stock, (Frigidaire 13 cu. ft. upright). A few days later Home Depot sent me an E-Mail early in the morning, that they received 407 of them at their distribution center, so I immediately ordered one. They were all sold out by the end of the day!

Last week they delivered it. Now with a fridge / freezer, along with an additional separate freezer, we thought it was time to buy a generator, just in case the power goes out. I saw a nice Westinghouse 9500 watt model with remote electric start, and dual fuel, (Gasoline / Propane), and a lot of other nice features. But the same deal. Out of stock. So I put in for another E-Mail notification. About 3 days later I got a, "in stock notice" from Home Depot. It showed 111 in stock. So I right away bought one. Immediately after I completed the purchase, I checked and sure enough it dropped to 110 in stock. Immediately after I bought one.

I checked again 3 hours later, and all 110 were gone, and it was again showing out of stock! 111 generators sold in just 3 hours. And that was just one model. They carry dozens. I got a shipping notice today, and they'll be delivering it on or before the 9th. Between guns, ammo, and now generators and freezers, all selling like hotcakes, everyone thinks the apocalypse is coming. I've even read there is a "shortage" of bicycles! Go figure.

Been that way since March.  I bought a tow behind diesel for my property.  It is way over powered, but being on propane  I  was not about to burn up a 250 tank in 2 days. With a generac.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

Been that way since March...........

We tried to buy one last Spring, when all of this nonsense started. We just have been wanting one because there just isn't enough room in our side by side to stock up and take advantage of the "deals" you come across on meat and chicken. Our dining room is right off the kitchen. And I finally got around to moving some furniture so we would have a nice spot for it, where it wouldn't look "stupid".

We went to Lowe's and ordered one. This was back in late March. (The same model Frigidaire we have now). They took our money, gave us a delivery date, and when the time came, they never called or delivered anything. When I called and got a hold of the manager, he checked and came back and apologized. He admitted they over sold that model nationwide by over 800 units. (How that happened I have no idea). When I asked him he didn't have a good answer.

He said he couldn't tell us when they would have one, because the manufacture said their warehouse didn't have any of them either. So we just gave up. They gave us a refund, and we waited for things to settle down. They obviously never did.

Then I saw a couple of weeks ago where Home Depot was advertising the same exact model. I put in for an E-Mail notification, and within days they E-Mailed me back that they were "in stock". (111 of them). And within a respectable time frame, it was delivered, plugged in, up and running. I seem to have better luck that way with Home Depot over Lowe's... At least around here. As always YMMV.

When we did the remodel 7 years ago, we selected a Dacor oven/microwave built-in.  What a mistake.  Microwave is okay but the oven is badly designed.   (baking coils on top ?@#$$%??)  So I though for Christmas I get us a new double oven with the heating coils designed correctly.

Maybe February.  If I hurry.

ROFL    ;D    Guess you were not aware that "Dacor" was known for their SCUBA gear.
Sounds like they soaked you.

Is the microwave tested to 30 meters ?   ;D

I guess in the back of my mind, I did know that the formoer Davidson Coporation was known as DaCor.  I was certified Y and PADI back in the day.  Tough course.  2 weeks after I completed training the instructor's wife killed him, cut him into smaller pieces and hid him in a 55gallon drum.  I was so mad at her.  Not for killing him but for not waiting until he had completed my certificates.

Dacor is a different company are known for "high end appliances" as well.  https://www.dacor.com/about-us/timeline

Let me tell you the problems.

The oven has the baking coils on top, which throws off all recipes.   I've learned to put foil on the bottom, shiny side up and cover whatever we're backing with foil as well.  Sometimes putting a wire shelf with foil above what we're cooking to protect it.

Also the there's no door switch on the internal light.  Plus, and I'm learning all ovens do this now for "energy efficiency", they use the broiling coils to bring the oven up to initial temperature.  If you put anything in there ahead of time it'll get crispy on top.

The gas cook top works well except one of the indicator lights went out.   No spare parts are available.  And this was before Wuhan Flu.   Eventually I'll take the cook top apart and jury rig a generic LED light to replace the one that went out.

Have you tried government liquidation .com.  Most of the generators on there are diesels. They had gasoline 3ks. They would sell you three 3ks for 100 bucks for a while. I have not been back on the site for a while. 15k generators were up for sale. If you are opening a machine shop. Look there also.

No that's the problem, all the burners are on the top causing too much heat on the top of the baking.   Raising them closer to the burners would make things worse.    Miss Kitty's birthday is next month, and I think this will be  perfect.   For me too, as I do all the cheesecakes and torts.
