m25operator, not trying to cause an uproar just jerking a few lines to see who bites. I agree with you and our troops are getting their buts shot off because the AKs are going thru walls and the 5.56 wont penetrate. Maybe thats why the Iraquis are being issued m-16s so they will eventually fall into the wrong hands. :P They are both good platforms and its really the person shooting it . But I like the 7.62x39 over the .223 or 5.56, plus the weapons are much more user friendly and serviceable.I hear alot of ground pounders are picking them up and using them over there.  ;)

I believe it was Military.com I just read a story about a soldier who went to the m-14 for those same reasons. They have a column for soldiers to tell about their weapons, very interesting stuff.

Friends dont let friends buy AR-15s , Dont get me wrong I carried a M-16 , but the AK is a much superior weapon and the round is better in CQC . The AR is better at long range, but is that what you need?. NO a 30 round 762x39 154 gr.

I firmly believe in having several of each!!!

10/4 on the fn-fal and let's not forget the hk 91, my experience with cetme's has left me cold, but with work they can be reliable. I still kick myself in the butt for not getting an fn49 in .308/7.62 nato when they were relatively cheap, great craftsmanship. I  still think the M1a, has the most to offer, just as reliable in semi auto, excellent sights with excellent adjustments as issued but can be upgraded, front and rear, with 1/2 minute clicks.
Now with the scout mount system, CQB OPTICS are easy and stout. The side mount scope mounts have not been reliable, although I've not tried the new Brooks or Leatherwood versions. Although I've not shot them, the new sage stocks with the accessory rails, are very front heavy and throw off the natural pointability of the original design. My favorite go to rifle is my standard M1a with a walnut M14 stock, me and this rifle have a lot of history and I truly believe if I can see it, I can hit it. With factory czech 147 ball ammo this rifle has day in and day out shot 89% possible score in NRA service rifle competition. My one and only leg match with govt supplied match ammo I shot 94% with no sighters out to 600 yards. No wonder I love this rifle, there are many like it, but this one is mine.

A friend of mine retired as a Marine Sniper/Master Sarge.  He is now back in Iraq in a civilian employment.  He can have anything he wants for defense arms.  He chose an AK47 folder and a Glock 19 as a hideout -the 9mm only because it's much easier to get 9mm ammo.  While in service, he liked the M4 with an Eotech for it's handling and accuracy, but saw too many enemy take hits from the .22 at longer ranges and keep on fighting.  If they were behind any cover, they were often hard to touch with the M4.  Luckily they often had a M2 .50 on their vehicle; that did reach out and touch someone.  He chose the AK for the larger bullet and because the M4 says "Military" a little too well to anyone looking, while the AK is so common it's almost ignored.

I tried to register at AR15.com, and could not because of my email address being yahoo.  Why is it some forums will not allow you to register if you have a yahoo or hotmail address?  I have had this address for several years now.
