Sledgemiester I will stick up for you by pointing out the "proper Naval Officers" Were guy's like William Blye (Governor of New South Wales AFTER the Bounty incident) Who went back to England because Tasmania had no tea and strumpets Crumpets.
BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY ! Are the Tasmanian Devils related to Badgers ?

I am not sticking up for him......

South Australian's origins were unique in Australia as a freely-settled settlement, unlike  Tasmania  a convict settlement  hehe

yes it is a Beautiful part of the world down there

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them

I cam to ND for school, and will probably stay because the people haven't changed their attitudes from rural yet.  We measure distances in hours, and still stop to talk in the middle of the gravel road.

There are many in Fargo that have rural roots. I am finding, though, that many are MN wannabes, think they are in the Twin Cities. Very snooty in some ways, very much better than thou, especially when I walk around in my Fudd hat and arctic Carhartt. Love going to West Acres Mall dressed like that, great people watching.

They are the type of people that made me REALLY want to leave St. Cloud.  It seemed like the entire city was made up of people who would rather live in Minneapolis/St. Paul but were somehow stuck in St. Cloud.

Hey Pathfinder and deamonpi,

I used to be stationed in ND at Minot AFB back in the 80's, and used to drive down to Fargo and Bismarck for a change of pace sometimes. The people there seemed like real good folks, the true "heartland" sort.
And deamonpi, I had orders to Misawa AFB but didn't get to go because my enlistment was up, and I didn't re-up......Always wondered if I made the right choice on that or not. How was it there ?? Heard it was a F-16 base that had incursions from Russian Bears all the time.

LOL thanks but no they were felons, one stole some cloth and had his execution commuted to transportation, his wife was a 2nd fleeter although cant find out what she dis, my G G grandfather stole a pocket watch and was transported. The british didnt really care what people did all they wanted to do was populate the country as to stop the french, clog hoppers and russians from settling.

Tasmanian Devils are not related to badgers although I can see why you would think so, they are in fact a marsupial meaning they give birth to live young and they then crawl into a pouch to mature.

The pics are not mine but I have some that are just as pretty.

Oh and Philw we all know SA was settled because no one else wanted to live near folk with webbed feet! ;D

I grew up in the Blue Ridge mountains in northwestern NC. I moved to Lexington NC in 2001. Nc is pretty 2A friendly and we have decent hunting laws. Lexington is ok but I hate the summers it is too hot. It makes me miss the mountains in the summer.

I can't comment on Misawa as that is where I was born, But my parents said they liked it.  Part of that is because we always lived off installation, and got to know the folks, harder to do when you live on installation.  People have a tendency to find the path of least resistance, so socialize with what's near.

I understand the phrase very well, and have very little sympathy for those kinds of places.  case in point, look at Zimbabwe, You can't blame the whites anymore since they were kicked out, the bad crap going on is solely because of those in power now.

That term applies to most urban areas in this country too!  Sad.....keep a 50 mile buffer from any welfare office if possible, prefereably more....
