Orlando, FL
Just getting back into shooting. Looking at trying to compete in IDPA matches at central florida rifle and pistol club. I'm looking at Glock 17 but have always heard the 9mm is a &@?**# caliber. I won't be using the gun as a CC only competition. I always wanted a 1911 but think the cost of bullets would be huge compared to the 9mm. My next task is to research the cost of buying 9mm VS 40 S&W VS 45 ACP then making a decision whether to buy a G17 or a Top quality 1911.
Looking forward to reading all your posts and learning sumThin.

Welcome aboard, Walter.

It's good you are getting back to shooting. ....it should be an active part of everyone's life.

You will find lots of folks here with experience in the competitive shooting in which you are interested....I'm not one of them  :D

Take care and enjoy.

Welcome Walter!  I would encourage you to shoot a variety of guns and find what works best for you.  If you listen to DRTV's podcast this week, MB talks about multiple rounds on target in a defensive encounter and how caliber becomes sort of a mute point at that time.

FWIW if I were going to buy something for just competition I would look at either the Glock 34 or the XDM 5.25.

From NE Alabama. Several years in FL followed by 5 years in KS, 6 in GA, 12 in ME, 1 in Chile, (had I known I could carry in Peru, I'd have gone there instead..) and ironically/unexpectedly, find myself back where I started, just one mountain over..
Saw only one other post here from AL.
Hope I haven't pissed off too many people too bad here yet. I do like it here...
Joe

Welcome......
My dad's people were from northern Alabama.

And don't worry about pissing off folks....most of us get over it in a few minutes...."LOOK, BOOBIES!!!!!"...... every once in a while someone gets mad enough to bite themselves and they leave....but for the most part, we are like-minded and amiable. From your posts, you seem to fit in.  ;)  ;D
