sorry but i have never used a suppressor during my service. even in Personal security in iraq we still thought it better to warn everyone that we were using lethal force and warn near by friendlies. i guess that when the fit hits the shan a supressed handgun will be a godsend. Say your skirting around a hostile town, but they have a sentrie posted outside in a OP (using my imagination here) it would be a lot easier to pick him off with ur suppressed pistol than ur SKS. sorry i couldnt be of more use but i really dont have much experience with them  :-[

im talkin bout the thing that goes bang

During my time in the SAS my patrol skill was demolitions, i took a 6 week course in explosives and IED's. most people dont know (for a reason) that its possible to make a bomb from what you can buy at Walmart. i have a thing when my wife takes me grocery shopping i look at the shelves and see what i can use to make a IED, it works better in Lowes though.

i would probably set these claymores up with clothes peg trip wires with the Paint can shaped charge filled with shrapnel.

Thats what i would have when the fit hits the shan

I'm in a rural area about 5 miles outside a small town just large enough for a Wal Mart and a McDonalds (liked it better when it was smaller).  I'm in a small subdivision out on a lake and will be staying at home watching with neighbors and watching some neighbors.  Not having any experience in your craft, what do you think about the planned and orderly use of suppressors for home defense?  I've got one in 44 mag that throws 350 grains subsonic at 1/2 the noise of a pellet gun...it's quiter than the garden variety 308 and nearly twice as heavy and makes bigger holes.

I've read some stuff about 22 suppressors being used prior to entry, even picked up some tips to isolate my barrel from receiver from some operators..which did make it quieter.

I will say this...suppressors ROCK! I have two of them. One for my HK USP, and another for my AR. Both are quieter than a .22 rifle, and almost eliminate recoil. The only downside is that a suppressor mounted on the end of a 16" rifle barrel tends to unbalance the weapon. Obviously becoming very front heavy. Not to mention adding another 7" to your barrel length. But for a tactical situation, where you need to stay unnoticed, suppressed weapons are the way to go. As far as the pistol version, you have to remove the suppressor to holster the sidearm. So it's not very practical if you are switching weapons a lot.
