Unfortuanately, not in Commiefornia. Unless it is an existing model that has been grandfathered in from before our CA Certified Safe Handgun list, the gun has to have a magazine safety. That's why we don't get Keltecs and LCP's. 
That's too bad.
My M+P has the lovely engraved disclaimer right on the frame:
"Capable of being fired without magazine".
Posts about grip and feel are very valid and varied. Personal preference, shooters level of familiarity, etc,...
A partner of mine won't get a pistol without all the safeties, decockers, mag safety, etc,...
He's new to shooting, and is humble and smart enough to acknowledge his comfort level, (nice guy, just not a cocked and locked, or trigger safety kinda guy),....
Practice, practice, practice.
