Amazing how laws can still change from state to state, Uwharrie National Park issues hunting permits.

http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/recreation/uwharrie/index.htm

Dedicated by JFK, in 1961, but subsidized and run by the NC Dept. of Wildlife and Resources, it issues hunting permits on FEDERAL LAND, and camping (which I have done often) was no problem with OPEN carry.

Told so by a NC Wildlife Officer.

I don't know, I'm sure its confusing for a reason.

Pisgah Nat. Forest. as I recall, (maybe wrong) doesn;t allow hunting or shooting. Although our group for a 10 day canoe trip, had weapons which we discharged for a nasty possum (possibly rabid), that hissed up to our camp during the day no less, and was dropped by a .45LC Ruger.

Don;t know about the other states....

Just offering my .02 cents that PegLeg will have the drop on with both barrels. (bottom avatar) ::)

There's not really a lot of consistency from one park to another regarding helpful info.

As Alf pointed out, in Kennesaw, guns of any type are a no no and they have it on the web page.
http://www.nps.gov/kemo/planyourvisit/yoursafety.htm

In General:

    * If possible, always carry a cell phone.
    * Please, do not play on cannons, these are original pieces and can be dangerous if and when you fall off.
    * Explosives, fireworks, firearms and other weapons are not permitted at any time.
    * Pick up a map or brochure before venturing into the Battlefield and on to the trails.
    * Do not leave valuables in your vehicle.
    * STAY ALERT at all times!
    * If you see anything suspicious, call 911 immediately.

But on several other Georgia pages, there is no info at all concerning firearms.

I guess it's best to just call ahead and hope the person you talk to has all their marbles in one sock.

In my younger days I did a portion of the Appalachian Trail. Up in New Hampshire I remember that there was an 8" length restriction (on knives :) ) in the Presidential range (national forest or national wilderness I can't remember which). Does anyone know if this is still the case?

Not that I know of but I could be wrong.

What other Federal properties is CCW prohibited?  Is there a list somewhere?  I suspect you can't carry in Federal Court Houses. but what about other places?

This does raise an interesting legal question though. What are the penalties? As far as post offices, court house, military facilties etc., these are statutory crimes. Go to jail. The parks, its just a rule. Is it a criminal violation, or just an infraction, like lighting an unauthorized campfire that will get you chucked out with a fine? I'm not a lawyer and don't know enough to research it but I would be curious to know. If I'm just going to get scolded and pay a $100 fine if I'm caught, it's one thing. If Ranger Rick is going to get out the cuffs, its another. Anyone?
