Who's your favorite live band or concert?
« on: April 24, 2009, 04:45:25 AM »
FQ13's post about songs in troubled times, got the old wheels turning.  I used to be a bit of a "long hair" and attended concert after concert from my late teens through mid/late twenties.  Who's your favorite live act or best concert you've attended.

Best live act:

1.  Allman Brothers - I've seen them in different configurations around a dozen times.  They never fail to impress.
2.  Ted Nugent - played White Buffalo as his encore and ended it by firing a flaming arrow into his guitar.   :o
3.  Tom Petty - probably saw him and Heart Breakers 3-4 times, always great
4.  Dave Matthews Band - (early years)  Fantastic jam band.  Lots of HOT college age chicks.

Best Concert:

1.  Jimi Buffett - Scored front row, center stage tickets one year.   ;D  The smiley says it all!
2.  Eric Clapton - 3rd time I saw him.  Just him and 4 man band.  Very casual, very cool, and very good seats.  (Acoustic version of Bell Bottom Blues)
3.  Eagles - put on a great show.  Played all their group and solo hits.
4.  B.B. King Blues Fest - Susan Tedeschi, Buddy Guy, B.B. King... need I go on?

Once I go through the ticket stubs I'm sure I'll have to amend this post.  At 5 a.m., these are the ones that stand out in my mind, however.

Haven't seen a lot of live concerts myself, got turned off when I saw Jefferson Airplane in college and my ears rang for 3-4 days afterwards.

Best concert I did see was Ian Tyson in 2000 at the outdoor Medora stage. You sit in theater seats built into the the side of a hill, the backdrop is the ND badlands, and just Ol'e Ian and 2 guys on guitars on stage. All acoustic, all outdoors, and all the best Western music ever written or performed.

All that followed up by a pitchfork fondue. Got to meet the guy myself, shake his hand and thank him personally. Can't get much better than that.

Been along time ago and in no particular order.

1.  Jerry Jeff Walker at some huge nightclub in Dalas/Fort Worth area that had a mechanical bull, live indoor rodeo, and soundproof phone booths that had prerecorded excuse messages.

2.  Gary P. Nunn in Luchenbach, Texas

3.  Ray Wiley Hubbard at a bar in Dallas.  I think it was the Texas Tea House.  Saw Roy Barnes there also.

;D  I hope one day be able to say the same!

As of now it would have to be the SRV concert I saw about two weeks before he died.  The man was amazing!

ZZ Top puts on a great show!

As far as pure unadulterated high-energy show it would have to be Garth Brooks (nice guy, too....I've had the opportunity to meet him on a couple of ocassions........it's good to be in radio)

;D

Now that is a great idea.  Too, cool!    8)

Oh, man!  Envious doesn't even begin to cover it.

SRV in FT. Worth Texas, 11th row aisle seat, He was in rare Jimi mode, wearing a canary yellow pimp suit with yellow beret. During Voodo chile, He started playing his guitar on the floor, and I ran up to the stage to see better, 1st one there, got to see about 10 seconds before the bouncers started pushing, no big deal I thought as I turned around to go back to my seat, I had not figured on the few hundred people that came behind me. lucky only had 11 rows to go. Texas Flood concert, still got the muscle shirt. ;D

Clapton and Freddy King, seperately and then together on the same night, only time I truly got enough guitar. :P

Kiss Alive tour, I know, I was 17, but like Jimmy Buffet said, " don't try to describe a Kiss concert if you've never seen 1 " ;)

Brian Burns, Gary P Nunn, Tommy Alverson and Nathan Hamilton on a Cruise to Cancun, part of a radio promotion and We got to spend 4 days with them in small bar rooms mostly, and they were nice enough to let me videotape 4 hrs of them from about 20'. And they all autographed my Baby Taylor guitar. 8)
