Yep, been looking at jeeps for awhile now....more affordable than the Pinz I want. Cool thing with the Pinz and Unimogs in how you can customize them to your needs. Add a Conqueror camper trailer and you have a go anywhere rig.

Way back when I was in the Army all you needed to fix a Jeep was 1/2 inch, 9/16, screw driver and a hammer!  You could fix damn near anything on it.  You could get or adapt parts for it easy.  Little 6 banger that would go any where, but fuel mileage wasn't great.  I especially liked the older split window models.

That's an M38, not a CJ5 as advertised.  Depending how comftorble you are on a bike I think it may be close to as good for this catagory as the Bike.  :-\

Not much could compare to a duce and a half if only for fun!  ;D  I like the "Mobile Command Center's".  (Just a big steel box on the back)

Hello to all.

My choice would be a older Jeep. Check out    thecj3bpage   or  Surpluscityjeepparts  .  The cj3b page has people and articles that help you in restoring old jeeps.  Parts are out there  ie; in Ohio there is body parts (new) to replace the beyond restoring "tubs" and fenders. In  South Carolina (aikens) is a jeep parts company.  There are plenty other sites and companies out there. So start looking behind the barns and '60 's junkyards.

For us in the north, during the winter months are a good time to work on fixing up vehicles when snowed in or just plain having time on yor hands.

I have a '54  CJ3B with an enclosed cab that when I get the time and money will turn it into a mobile communications (ham) and Radio directional finding type vehicle.

Extra/Spare parts need to be stored in electromatic/radiation resistant (silver) type packets/bags.

Not spoil the fun but your ultimate post apocalypse vehicle is a mountain bitke with a lttle bike trailer. Gas will be gone in weeks, we don't store much, and what we do will probly be held by someone better armed than you. The roads will not be maintained and maybe clogged and bridges  may be out. Bikes are, cheap, easy to fix and will go any where. Not a lot of fun to peddle with an eighty pound pack and pulling  a trailer but faster than pushing a jeep thats out of gas. ;D

MOUNTAIN BIKE! :(  Where's the fun in THAT?!?  Even if you are right about gas being gone in a few weeks. :(

I still love this idea!
