Exit Question: Is anyone else surprised by how quickly this has become a very lengthy thread?

How about an attack mule?

I wouldn't try to saddle him without permission. Yikes!

I've been looking for a winter/off-road vehicle.  What about a CUCV?  I was leaning to either a m1008 pickup or m1009 Blazer.  Diesel powered, upgraded running gear, TOUGH electrical system (24v?).  They're available for around $1K I believe.
thoughts?

p.s. Why doesn't anyone currently sell a high MPG 4wd/awd pickup or suv?  No Samurai or B2000 anymore (in the USA)

A Gama Goat is about the same size as a pickup truck so it will fit down city streets. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gama_Goat It's an amphibious 6x6 with 4-wheel steering. Plus they're fun to drive.

Agreed - love the Goat!

The Goat played a minor role in Stripes with Bill Murry, in the background at the Czech checkpoint, never moved. But I have seen them in action, way cool machine. Don't know about the mileage though . . .   ;)

If you leave the tail gate open on the Gama Goat they DO NOT float. At Motor T school they were going to show us how amphibious they were, it turned into a class on vehicle recovery.  ;D
