Happy to read all the positive responses RE: the XD 45. I just ordered my 4" today.
My son-in-law is in LE and carries a 3" XD in .40 S&W as a back up. I was really impressed how accurate it is even with the 3" barrel right out of the box.
This weapon will be used basically as a house gun. Has anyone had any experience mounting a light to thier XD? Pros? Cons? I'm interested in hearing any responses

The same thing happens with short barrel Kahr's and the Glock 27 - the shorter the barrel, the stiffer and more accuracy-conductive it becomes for the .40.

I was looking at the little 3" XD's the other day in .40. I asked if they can get me a 9mm and the guy said no.
NJ has a limit of 15 on magazine capacity and the 9mm comes with a 16 rd and 10 rd mag.
The dealer said he can't get the 9m.
Is that the stupidest thing you ever heard?

Why wouldn't Springfield modify the mags to make a 15 rd for NJ or just sell with 2 10 rd mags?
I know...there are ways around that, but if I ever had an incident, it wouldn't matter how bad the bad guy was, the only thing that would matter would be that I had one too many rounds in the mag.

Sounds like BS to me, Jay. I'm looking at SA's online catalog for the XD, and under the subcompact, it says "*High Capacity Magazines May Not be available in all states." Says NOTHING about the gun not being sold in those states.

I think this guy just wants you to buy the one he already has there.

You're right...this guy is a nice guy and I don't think he's even that sharp- he probably THINKS he can't get one, but he's not the brightest bulb in the drawer...
Since I'm such a d--k I'm going to email Springfield and have some fun whining and see what they say.[/color]

In keeping with that attitude, here I am quoting myself!
The email response from Springfield was that the 9mm is available with two 10 rd mags and just needs to be ordered by leaving out the "HC" in the part number. Simple enough...but 10 round mags? Come-on.
I guess there might be after market mags out there in 15 rd?

I'm fairly certain that you can modify Beretta 92 magazines to fit your XD9.  I forget where it was said.  It's one of the reasons why I wrote a character picking up an XD instead of a Beretta 9000 as his backup for his full-sized Beretta.

The character himself would have no problem with the hideous ergonomics of the 9000, but since he's 6'3" with big hands, if he hands someone else the backup piece, they'll have to stretch to use the trigger.  The XD, however, is ergonomic joy.

There is a used XD Tactical in "OD" green at a local pawn shop. I have been thinking about adding it to the family. It comes with three hi-cap mags. It looks box new, but I know the guy who traded it in. He shoots a gun alot then grows tired of it and trades it in. The price is $500. I think it's a good deal one day then the next I am not sure. What do you guys think?

I'm thinking $500 might be a bit much. I've seen brand new 4" models for about $530, although I've seen them marked as high as $700.
