Beef Barley soup, Homemade.

I had to look up Caldo Verde. I know next to nothing about Portuguese cooking and never heard of it before. It reminds me of some Italian collard green soup I had before.

The last thing I ate was chocolate pudding cake. Before that was a big bowl of salad made from a fat cucumber from my friends' garden and some carrots. I tossed it in a balsamic vinaigrette and it looked just a bit too wet so I added crumbled up tortilla chips. I almost forget but whittled down the last of a block of jack cheese for it. I saw some Aged Gouda in the fridge that was too gouda pass up so I crumbled 2 sliced of that into it too. Not bad but I'm hungry again.

Friday I had Nonni's classic almond biscotti with my coffee just like this morning. But after that I had 2 meals of macaroni and cheese covered with slices of Zatarain's 100% pork Andouille smoked sausage. That was good. I used one stick of sausage for that and have one in the fridge that I'm trying to decide what to do with. I have 2 ideas not counting just sticking it on bread and eating it. I'll figure something out later.

Poor man's beef stew.
When I was real little my Dad did tree work and the pay sucked.
So my mother had this recipe hamburg, potato's, and onions, with seasonings.
Well, I liked it.
So I add carrots, celery, and green onion. in the crock pot.

Triple chocolate biscotti with my coffee, because the only thing better than chocolate is more chocolate. They're made with cocoa, chocolate chips instead of almonds, with the bottoms dipped in more chocolate. The tiny drizzle of chocolate on top doesn't count, or they would be quadruple chocolate.

Yesterday I got my free birthday burger from my favorite burger joint. I got the Fire Burger with Pepper Jack Cheese, Sriracha Mayo, Cholula Hot Sauce, Fresh Jalapeños, Onion Straws, Lettuce and Tomato. It seems like hot sauce from Mexico would be hot but regular Cholula isn't too hot. I really like it on tacos but I like the homemade hot sauce at my favorite taco place even better. It's just tomatoes and chili peppers they grind together. On Veterans Day I got a free burger too. I had an Ancho BBQ Burger with Cheddar Cheese, Ancho BBQ Sauce, Bacon, Fried Onion Straws, Lettuce and Tomato. Both burgers had 2 patties of Single-source Angus Beef on a Toasted Brioche Bun as usual.

I had a bowl of chili and will have another one later. I picked up a 108 ounce food service size can chili con carne without beans 2 weeks ago. After eating 3 or 4 bowls of it, I rinsed and added a 30 ounce can of black beans that I've been trying to figure out what to do with ever since I got it. I found half a bag of crispy fried jalapenos in my camping stuff that I opened a couple of months ago and were still edible. After I covered my bowl of chili with them I topped it with a little leftover pepper jack cheese and the last 2 slices of American cheese. I have at least one bowl of chili and some fried jalapenos left. I took 2 more kinds cheese out of the freezer so I don't have to use the Gouda stuff.

Stews and soups are all considered poor man meals, or at least that is how they came to be.

Some of the meals I make that the family appreciates the most are nothing more than putting whatever is available in a dutch oven for a couple hours.  Plain meatballs and homemade egg noodles (a pound of hamburger, a little onion,  some flour milk and an egg, a potato or two, and a bunch of water) - a couple bucks feeds four people for two or three meals.

Beans, rice, barley, root veggies, and cheap meat, and you can warm your bones and feel like a king.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

Had a brisket sandwich yesterday at Sonny's BBQ in Commerce, GA on the way home from Helen, GA.
It was pretty good brisket served on garlic bread instead of a bun.

Tonight is taco soup followed by some pecan pie.

Pumpkin pie flavored glazed popcorn. It really tasted like pumpkin pie too, not just pumpkin pie spice.
