I had the SR9 out again this weekend, shooting it along with  a few other pistols.  I'm still not sold on it, but I'm so confused I'm going to just sit on it for awhile. I LIKE the pistol...it feels good, and now it operates really without a hitch. But I'm NOT sold on the trigger and I can't shoot it as accurately as I could prior to the retrofit. The trigger is stiff, but it's a short travel and quick recovery, but the trigger just feels very strange to me.
Plus I'm still pissed at Ruger over the whole thing and the long wait. It's not the gun I bought...it has changed quite a bit.

I've actually been thinking of getting rid of it to buy something else, but for what I'd get on a trade in I'm probably better off just keeping it.

Like I said, I'm going to take my time...maybe it'll grow on me or I'll get used to the trigger. The gun works fine and is reliable...as long as I'm not shooting at something 25 yards away, I think it's ok, but it certainly isn't a target pistol, and it's less accurate than it was before the new trigger.



That is a very legitimate complaint.... I think that if you want to get rid of it, then you should take it up directly with Ruger...... if their customer service is really what everyone says it is, they should give you a full refund and one hell of an apology.

I agree with you to some extent tomobogan...a break-in is essential, and I have never owned a gun with that type of trigger. That's why I'm taking my time.

But like ericire says, Ruger SHOULD be pretty accomodating with big whiners like me, but it's probably just too costly. You'd think after what Ruger put SR9 owners through to get the retrofit that you wouldn't have to send it right off and spend the money to get a trigger job.
I'f I'm sending it off and spending more money on it, it's going to be sent to the display case at whatever dealer will take it in trade. At this point if it doesn't start growing on me and I have to spend more money on it, I might as well take my chances with something else that I want.

Any idea what an refurbished SR9 in excellent condition will bring in a trade? I'm thinking that it is time to invest in an XD in .357 Sig...

Right now Bud's Gun shop on the internet is selling SR9s for $398. I don't know if they're retrofitted or not, but I guess you can figure on getting no more than about $350 for it at best. Probably less.
So say I get $300 for my SR9 and I want an XD (old style- no NEW models for me!). So that's going to be about $520, so I get rid of my SR9 and spend $220 (plus tax here) and registration fees...I'm spending almost $300 to exchange the one gun for the other...
It's just been a lousy purchase, period.

i have to agree, this gun is only slightly more reliable than a paper weight with the way it handles, as far as accuracy is concerned its nothing worse than it was but nothing better... the trigger pull is so heavy that it makes it useless as a defense pistol... a problem i have noticed is that the secondary trigger on it likes to over extended and cause the trigger to "jam" forward... the safety on it often times will click off but will not allow me to slide it back up without pulling the slide back and dropping the clip.  i'm calling ruger about these issues tomorrow and see what they say about it

I was finally able to get my modified SR9 out to the range today.  Even with all of the negative reports I have been hearing I was still amazed at just how bad this new trigger is.  I had to use a fish scale to measure trigger pull and mine was running around eleven pounds.  I put about a hundred rounds through it and my finger is sore.  I was throwing rounds all over the place.  I am so disappointed.

I think I'll sell mine outright rather than try to trade it in.  This episode has left a bitter taste in my mouth for Ruger products.  Well, that's not entirely true - I still love my 10/22,

I love their revolvers and .22's, but their center fire semi auto's suck. I don't know about their rifles or shotguns,except that their composite stock on the model 77 is the ugliest in the gun stores.

After reading all the post from the various SR-9 subjects, I would never send a pre recall pistol back for the "upgrade". I submitted a post about this before, and no one can give a difinitive answer. Why was the recall necessary? Here's a hot flash, ALL pistols and revolvers MIGHT discharge when dropped with the safety off. Some WILL discharge when dropped, GUARENTEED. Don't drop them. Does anyone remember the Colt 2000? That was supposed to save Colt. If Ruger execs want to do what's right, They'll offer to put the old parts back in if you sign a waver, releasing Ruger from any and all liabilities related to the SR-9. As it is now, SR-9 production is dead. Dealers aren't going to be able to give these pistols away with the shiity trigger rep. What you wanna bet you start seeing the pre recall pistols at gun shows for more than the new pistols are selling for.

I was debating about buying a Ruger SR9, but after reading a lot of the posts on here, I think I will pass.  Instead I might pick up a Glock 17 or 22.  Thanks for an informative review.

So I wonder what Ruger thinks now that pretty much every gun forum has 2-3 SR9 threads right on top.

The more I read the better feel for trading mine off when I did heck I even got rid of my LCP the only Ruger I now own and ever will own is my trusty 10/22.
